Two pseudo-bloggers again: the etymology of «Rus'» (27.11.2021)

A street debate by Vitaliy Dribnytsia on the origin of the name “Rus’”: the two main versions of its etymology — the northern one (from Old Swedish via Finnic and Estonian intermediaries, “rus’” = “rowers,” an analogue of the Normans and Varangians) and the autochthonous one (from the hydronyms and toponyms with the root rus- in the Middle Dnipro region); the St. Sophia graffiti with the formula “rusian prince,” and the observation that the liturgical language of that era was Church Slavonic — that is, the Macedonian dialect of Old Bulgarian.
